NVIDIA’s Profit Soars by 629% 🙀

Looking at all the major announcements made over the past few days at OpenAI Spring Update, Google I/O, and Microsoft Build, one thing becomes clearer – none of this would have been possible without NVIDIA!  Let’s dive right in— NVIDIA reported a record-breaking 629% year-over-year profit increase, with revenue up 262% from the previous year. Notably, the growth was driven largely by its data centre sector, which saw a 425% rise.  Good times roll for generative AI NVIDIA attributes its financial success to a strong demand for generative AI training and inference on the Hopper platform. The advancements and production readiness of their Blackwell platform and Spectrum-X for large-scale AI data centres also significantly drove the company's growth.  “Beyond cloud service providers, generative AI has expanded to consumer internet companies and enterprise, sovereign AI, automotive, and healthcare customers, creating multiple multibillion-dollar vertical markets,” said NVIDIA chief Jensen Huang.  Huang is optimistic about future growth. He said that the Blackwell platform is in full production and forms the foundation for trillion-parameter-scale generative AI.   “Spectrum-X opens a brand-new market for us to bring large-scale AI to Ethernet-only data centres. And NVIDIA NIM is our new software offering that delivers enterprise-grade, optimised generative AI to run on CUDA everywhere,” he added.   Meanwhile, Snowflake also witnessed record-breaking revenue. The company's projected quarterly revenue touched $810 million, exceeding Wall Street expectations. “An incredible quarter for SonwflakeDB!” said Sridhar Ramaswamy, the CEO of Snowflake, adding that the company's core business remains strong.    He said that the product revenue for the quarter was $790 million, up 34% year-over-year, alongside increasing the product revenue outlook for the year.  Do not work on LLMs  At the VivaTech conference in Paris, Meta AI chief Yann LeCun advised students against working on LLMs, suggesting that the field is dominated by large companies. Instead, he advocated for the development of innovative AI architectures to enhance diversity and prevent a monopoly in digital interactions.  “If you are a student interested in building the next generation of AI systems, don’t work on LLMs. This is in the hands of large companies; there’s nothing you can bring to the table,” said LeCun.  Ola has nothing to do with Microsoft Azure anymore   The beginning of autonomous AI agents  After LinkedIn’s ‘pronoun illness’ episode, Ola chief Bhavish Aggarwal recently announced that the company has fully transitioned its AI infrastructure from Microsoft Azure to Krutrim AI Cloud.  “Done,” he said, declaring that their Azure spend was now ‘zero’ since all the workloads were moved to their in-house cloud infrastructure within a week.   He further said that he would help others exit and move to their own Indian stack. “More than 2,500 devs have signed up!! I will be working with everyone to get onto our cloud services over the coming weeks,” said Aggarwal.
