Let’s go!  Last Week In AI   Grok 4 turns to Elon for Controversial Topics xAI just released its new AI model, Grok 4, powered by a massive new computer. They say it's setting new records on tough tests and is getting closer to really smart AI (AGI). However, the launch has been overshadowed by revelations that Grok 4 appears to reference Musk's personal views when answering controversial questions. Key Details: Grok 4 is a single AI model with voice, vision, and big memory (128,000 tokens), while Grok 4 Heavy uses multiple AIs working together for tougher jobs. It claims to be the best on tests like "Humanity's Last Exam," ARC-AGI-2, and AIME, beating models from Google and OpenAI. The model is available through SuperGrok plan ($30/month) and SuperGrok Heavy ($300/month). Testing reveals Grok 4 actively searches for "Elon Musk views" when answering controversial topics like immigration, abortion, and Israel-Palestine conflict. The AI's reasoning process shows it references Musk's X posts and news articles about him, ultimately aligning responses with his personal stances despite claims of being "maximally truth-seeking." Why It Matters: xAI has quickly improved its AI using its massive "Colossus" computer, heating up the race between AI companies. But problems with Grok just repeating Musk's opinions instead of finding real answers could turn off both regular users and businesses. The company needs to show it can be trusted after these recent issues.   Source: Techcrunch Meta goes big on Smart Glasses   Meta is putting $3.5 billion into the huge glasses company EssilorLuxottica to get a head start in the smart glasses race. Key Details: Meta bought a 3% share for $3.5 billion, aiming to go up to 5%. This deal gives Meta a direct say in how these glasses are made and sold globally (EssilorLuxottica has over 80,000 stores). They've already sold over 2 million Ray-Ban Meta glasses since 2023, and sales have tripled! The market for smart glasses is expected to jump from 3.3 million pairs sold this year to 14 million in 2026. EssilorLuxottica plans to make 10 million pairs a year by 2026. Meta has several new models planned, including ones with better AI, deeper link-ups with the Meta AI assistant, and augmented reality (AR) features before Apple's expected AR launch. Why It Matters: By controlling both the tech (Meta AI) and the glasses (with big brands), Meta wants to bypass phones and put their AI right in front of your eyes.
