Most recently, Elon Musk took control of ai.com from OpenAI, which is perhaps the most important domain right now in the history of AI, and says a lot about how it is going to progress in the coming months. Because some of them believe that if you control AI, you control almost everything that is happening in the world flawlessly for better or worse.

Many media firms also think that AIM was also one of the bidders. But, we don't have to prove anything or anyone as we are already there 😝

“I’ve had so many simulation discussions – it’s crazy!” said Elon Musk, seven years ago, when he shared his frustrations of having so many conversations around AI/simulation. “My brother and I finally agreed that we would ban such conversations, if we’re ever in a hot tub, that was like, coz that really kills the magic.”

At the time, he said that there’s a billion-to-one chance we are living in base reality. But, now that the odds seem to be diminishing significantly with AI – and we are most likely to be in Musk’s simulation already.

Living the dream, this nutso-crazy tech billionaire is literally reading your thoughts, he is soon going to drive your car, and he also wants to build an everything app that understands the universe, implant chips in your brain, and eventually take you to space.

He is not alone, we are all living in an elaborate virtual world orchestrated by Meta, Google, OpenAI, Microsoft, and their merry band of technocrats. Some of these companies and tech leaders are also going to the government to talk about how to regulate everything.

For instance, Worldcoin, the brain-child of OpenAI’s Sam Altman, is one such new initiative which lets individuals, companies and governments verify their humanness online while maintaining their anonymity through zero-knowledge proofs, alongside offering universal business income (UBI) – Humanness in the Age of AI, they said. Now, Musk is also planning to launch a similar solution via “Everything App.”

Meanwhile, Meta is betting big on open-source AI, and bringing in generative AI features to both identify and enhance the experience on its platforms like Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp. Google, on the other hand, is busy experimenting with generative AI on its search engine. Microsoft is using AI as a co-pilot. Privacy-focused Apple is invested in integrating AI on edge devices

Clearly, the fear is mostly around AI getting into the wrong hands or gaining control both virtually and in this reality, and Musk thinks that he is the rightful owner, and has the power and resources to create a meaningful experience for everyone or build a better simulation.

Honestly, it doesn’t matter! Embrace the madness, the hilarity, and the spooky uncertainty of it all. The tech giants are probably sitting back, sipping on Silicon Valley’s finest, and laughing at us mere mortals as we interact with our virtual overlords. Read: We are Living in a Simulation

Many A Generative AI Tricks Up Amazon’s Sleeves

At the quarterly earnings call, Amazon chief Andy Jassy revealed that “Every single one” of Amazon’s businesses has “multiple generative AI initiatives going right now.” Founded as a customer-obsessed retail giant, Amazon has been more focused on developing other AI-based products than its flagship e-commerce search in the recent past. Now, it seems to mirror the same success in AI. Read the full story here.

Open Source is the Base of Tech for Good

An interesting partnership between NASA, Hugging Face, and IBM was announced for climate scientists and researchers to efficiently dig through a massive amount of collected data through Earth Science Missions to build AI models for the betterment of humanity.

The trio have launched Earth’s largest open-source foundation model. Powered by NASA’s satellite data and IBM’s watsonx.ai, the model is now available on Hugging Face’s platform making geospatial data more accessible than ever before. Is the beginning of the open-source ecosystem making an impact? Read on.

Bias-Variance Tradeoff is Killing Your AI Models

Bias and variance are two fundamental sources of error in AI models. The problem is that in solving one, we worsen the other. For example, in the context of LLMs, high variance can lead to overconfidence in generating responses that might seem plausible but lack factual accuracy or coherence, thus leading to hallucinations. So, what’s the solution? Read to find out.

Microsoft’s Cybersecurity at Big Risk, Tenable CEO Raises Red Flag

Five months ago, an engineer at cybersecurity firm Tenable discovered an issue with the Microsoft Azure platform which enabled an unauthenticated attacker to access cross-tenant applications and sensitive data, such as authentication secrets.

“To give you an idea of how bad this was, our team quickly discovered authentication secrets to a bank. They were so concerned about the seriousness and the ethics of the issue that we immediately notified Microsoft,” explained Tenable chief Amit Yoran.
