Last week, the world went berserk with the launch of OpenAI’s text-to-video generation model Sora. While many were flooding social media with prompt requests for Sam Altman to create Sora videos, and wow-ing over the generated content, AI sceptics were out to dissect the model.

Apart from questioning the accuracy of the videos, AI experts from rival companies were questioning the whole physics part of the model and debating over the use of generative AI for video synthesis.

Meta chief, Yann LeCunn has remarked at how people, who have contributed nothing to AI and ML, are schooling him on his take on the latest model. “Some of them, very far gone on the Dunning-Kruger scale, tell me all the ways I'm wrong, stupid, blind, ignorant, misguided, jealous, biased, out of touch, about AI and ML,” he said.

Not just LeCunn, but Perplexity’s Aravind Srinivas, AI scientist Gary Marcus, and even Tesla CEO Elon Musk have dismissed Sora’s generative model. So, how exactly has Sora ignited the physics debate? Read here to find out.

Akshit Arora, a senior data scientist supporting one of NVIDIA’s major clients, speaks Punjabi, while his wife and her family are Tamil speakers – a divide he has long sought to bridge. Rafael Valle, originally from Brazil, faced a similar challenge as his wife and family speak Gujarati.

In an exclusive interaction with AIM, these NVIDIA researchers talk about their multilingual text-to-speech models that could convert their voice into different languages in real time, which led them to winning LIMMITS ’24 challenge along with two other researchers.
