MMAANG — Microsoft, Meta, Amazon, Apple, Netflix, and Google — is investing over $200 billion to rewire their products, platforms, and infrastructure for an AI-native future.

While each company is taking a distinct path, the common denominator is clear: capital expenditure is exploding.

Microsoft is Copilot-ifying its entire suite. Meta is building the open-source AI stack and smart wearables. Amazon is developing custom silicon and enterprise AI tools. Google is integrating Gemini across its product ecosystem. Apple is pushing AI on-device with powerful chips and a revamped Siri. Netflix is using AI to cut production costs and personalise content discovery.

Coming back to big tech's AI spending and performance—

Microsoft Invests $21 Bn to Meet Soaring AI Demand

Microsoft posted a record $70.1 billion in revenue (up 13% YoY) and $3.46 EPS (up 18%). Cloud revenue reached $42.4 billion, powered by surging demand for AI workloads.

The company spent $21.4 billion in capex — primarily for new data centres and hardware — with half earmarked for long-lived assets supporting AI growth over 15 years.

"Our cost per token has more than halved," said Microsoft chief Satya Nadella.

Copilot usage tripled. Over 1 million custom AI agents were created. Microsoft's Foundry now serves 70,000+ organisations, streamlining AI app development.

"The next big platform shift builds on Azure — not a full rebuild," said Nadella.

Meta Raises Capex Outlook to $72 Bn as AI Push Accelerates

Meta kicked off 2025 with $42.3 billion in revenue (up 16% YoY) and $16.6 billion in net income. Capex guidance was raised to $64–72 billion, up from $60–65 billion.

Zuckerberg is betting on full-stack AI — from foundational models like Llama 4 to the Meta AI app and Ray-Ban smart glasses.

Meta AI now has close to 1 billion monthly users, with WhatsApp and Facebook driving most of the traffic. Conversion rates for ads have improved up to 5%, thanks to Meta's Generative Ads Recommendation model (GEM).

Despite $4.2 billion in Reality Labs losses, Meta is doubling down on AI agents and long-term infrastructure.

Meta's strategy: Control both the AI stack and how users experience it.

Amazon's AI Ambitions Fuel $117 Bn AWS Surge

Amazon beat Q1 estimates with $155.7 billion in revenue and $1.59 EPS. AWS alone is now at a $117 billion run rate, growing 17% YoY.

CEO Andy Jassy called AI "central to our mission", highlighting tools like Alexa+, Trainium 2 chips, and Nova, Amazon's foundation model.

AI is powering everything from internal ops to customer-facing tools. The company's AI services now generate multi-billion-dollar revenue, growing at triple-digit rates.

"We are not dabbling here." — Amazon chief Andy Jassy

Apple's $500 Bn Bet: AI on Devices, iPhones from India

Apple posted $95.4 billion in revenue (up 5%) and $24.8 billion in net income. Services hit a record $26.6 billion.

Apple chief Tim Cook spotlighted a $500 billion US investment plan, which includes AI expansion, a Texas-based server manufacturing hub, and more US-based teams. Apple now expects most US iPhones to be made in India by Q3 — a strategic hedge against rising tariffs, which cost the company $900 million this quarter.

Apple is bringing AI directly to the device with its new M4 Mac Studio, which is capable of running 600 billion+ parameter models in memory.

AI features like Writing Tools, Genmoji, Clean Up, and Private Cloud Compute are already live. Siri upgrades are rolling out gradually.

Apple is integrating AI natively — not on the cloud, but in your pocket.

Netflix's AI Play: Better Content, Smarter Ads

Netflix grew Q1 revenue by 13% YoY to $10.54 billion. Co-CEO Ted Sarandos pointed to AI's central role in content production and personalisation.

The film Pedro Páramo used AI de-ageing tech, drastically cutting post-production costs. Netflix is rolling out an AI-driven homepage and smarter search to improve engagement.

It's also expanding its ad-tech platform using AI for advanced targeting, aiming to double ad revenue in 2025 and hit $80 billion in revenue by 2030.

Netflix's AI play: Make content cheaper to produce, easier to discover, and better to monetise.

Google Bets $75 Billion on AI Future

Alphabet posted $90.2 billion in Q1 revenue (up 12% YoY). It plans to spend $75 billion in capex this year — much of it AI-focused.

CEO Sundar Pichai described Gemini 2.5 Pro as the "best model in the industry." AI Overviews now serve 1.5 billion monthly users on Google Search, enabling long-form, contextual queries.

AI is being embedded across the stack from Android and Pixel to Workspace and Cloud.

"We are deploying AI deeply across all parts of the company… and we are just getting started," said Pichai.

Next up, all eyes are on NVIDIA, with a $500 billion investment in US chip manufacturing and earnings due on May 28, it's a key moment in the AI infrastructure race.
