Just as our brain processes and organises information during sleep, AI's magic happens when GPUs and software team up to ensure seamless model performance. And who can do it better than NVIDIA?

Amidst the widespread acclaim for NVIDIA’s GPU prowess driving the AI revolution, a less recognised, yet equally significant contribution on the software front – NVIDIA’s CUDA (Computing Unified Device Architecture) – is making an impact.

CUDA isn’t just any ordinary enchantment, but a closed-source, low-level API that wraps the software around NVIDIA’s GPUs, creating an ecosystem for parallel computing. It’s so potent that even the most formidable competitors like AMD and Intel struggle to match its finesse.

But, there are some drawbacks too. The company’s pursuit of an upmarket strategy focusing on high-priced data centre offerings, might allow other companies to catch up on their software. The shortage of H100s adds to that as well.

That is where Intel and AMD might still have a chance to challenge NVIDIA’s supremacy, provided they do not follow its high-end approach and focus on building cost-effective GPUs and better open-source solutions.

While Intel and AMD are at it, OpenAI’s Triton is slowly emerging as a disruptive force against NVIDIA’s closed-source stronghold with CUDA. Interestingly, Triton is currently only powered by NVIDIA GPUs. The open-source reach might soon be available for other GPUs in the coming months.

GPU is the New Currency

A new trend is emerging in the AI ecosystem — companies are hoarding H100 as the currency to buy more GPUs. CoreWeave, a cloud computing upstart supported by NVIDIA and Magnetar Capital, has obtained a substantial $2.3 billion debt by leveraging the value of NVIDIA’s coveted H100 GPUs. The primary objective behind this financial manoeuvre is to acquire additional premium chips and fund other strategic initiatives.

In other words, NVIDIA’s investment in CoreWeave, a company heavily reliant on NVIDIA’s offerings, has led to the situation where the very NVIDIA products are being utilised as security to facilitate the purchase of more products likely from NVIDIA’s inventory. Remarkable, isn’t it? Read on.

KPMG Overcoming GenAI Shyness

Consulting and financial companies were one of the first ones to shy away from generative AI, but now the conversation is slowly shifting. One of the Big Four accounting firms, KPMG, has been using a ChatGPT-like framework to devise an in-house system that aids its staff by utilising proprietary data, spending billions to up its game in generative AI.

In an exclusive interview with AIM, Sachin Arora, the partner and head at Lighthouse (Data, AI, and Analytics), KPMG India, throws light on the initial hesitation, the evolving mindset, and the innovative implementations that are shaping the future of these sectors.

Fixit-2 vs Ruff

Meta recently released a new open-source auto-fixing linter, Fixit 2. This all-new linter was launched to enhance developers’ efficiency and competence encompassing both open-source projects and an extensive array of projects within the internal monorepo. All of this is fine, but how does it fare against Rust-based Ruff released earlier this year? Read to find out.
