Kimi Kimi Kimi… China has achieved yet another one of its open-source triumphs! As we watch the race for intelligent AI unfold in the West, the next big leap may just come from the other side of the Pacific. With Kimi K2 Thinking, Moonshot AI set a new standard for reasoning and coding benchmarks, outperforming GPT-5 and Claude Sonnet 4.5 within hours of release. by Sanjana Gupta |

Alibaba-backed startup, Moonshot AI, just unveiled Kimi K2 Thinking, and within hours, benchmark charts across AI forums lit up. At the heart of its architecture lies a design that activates 32 billion parameters per inference out of a total of one trillion parameters. It supports up to 2,56,000-token context windows, meaning it remembers more, reasons better and works longer than most of its Western peers. Deedy Das, partner at Menlo Ventures, reacted, "The best at writing, and does 15tps on two Mac M3 Ultras! Seminal moment in AI." Kimi K2 Thinking can pull off 200-300 sequential tool calls without human intervention, visibly thinking its way through problems. Moonshot calls this explicit reasoning, with logical steps made transparent across multi-stage workflows—something even among frontier models rarely offer. On benchmarks, Kimi K2 Thinking achieved 44.9% on Humanity's Last Exam (with tools enabled), 60.2% on BrowseComp web reasoning and 71.3% on SWE-bench Verified, each measuring the model's agentic and coding intelligence. |

Much Cheaper Than Competitors Despite its trillion-parameter scale, Kimi K2 Thinking is surprisingly cost-efficient: - $0.15 per million tokens (cache hits)
- $0.60 per million tokens (cache misses)
- $2.50 per million tokens (output)
That's roughly one-tenth the output cost of GPT-5, even cheaper than MiniMax-M2. The model is available under a Modified MIT Licence, permitting free commercial use with attribution for large-scale deployments. By open-sourcing Kimi K2 Thinking, China is betting that the future of AI innovation will belong to the open source community. As Clem Delangue, co-founder and CEO of Hugging Face, said, "The AI frontier is open-source!" This reiterates Jensen Huang, NVIDIA CEO's comment on how China is just "nanoseconds behind America in AI". Karnataka Held its Skill Summit 2025 in BengaluruIf China is racing to open AI's future, India is quietly building the talent to sustain it. At the Karnataka Skill Summit 2025, held in Bengaluru, the conversation centred around skills and skilling for the AI age. NITI Aayog CEO BVR Subrahmanyam emphasised that "skilling and technology must go hand in hand" for India to remain competitive in the AI economy. |
|
The summit highlighted the state's efforts to develop an AI-ready workforce through deeper collaboration between industry and academia, enhanced skills development and significant investments in emerging technologies. Ministers emphasised job readiness, global employability, inclusive innovation, and positioning Karnataka not just as India's tech capital, but as an AI-driven skills and talent hub across all sectors. Meanwhile, former Microsoft India Chairman Bhaskar Pramanik declared that there can be "no Viksit Bharat without AI", stressing that national progress depends on integrating AI into every layer of education and workforce development. In a move toward inclusivity, the Karnataka government announced the establishment of an Assistive Tech Centre and an Inclusive Incubator for persons with disabilities, aimed at ensuring that India's AI revolution is both equitable and innovative. [AIM Network Exclusive]As AI increasingly powers everything from payments to copilots, one glitch can stall the global economy. New Relic is stepping in to build what CEO Ashan Willy called the trust layer of the AI internet. In a recent episode of Front Page with AIM, Willy discussed how New Relic is turning observability into the new economic infrastructure of the internet. |

OpenAI has officially launched Atlas, a browser that embeds ChatGPT right into your browsing window, so you can ask, write, summarise or even automate tasks without ever switching tabs. Atlas is now live for macOS users across the Free, Plus, Pro and Go tiers, with beta access rolling out for Business, Enterprise and Education accounts. Versions for Windows, iOS, and Android are already on the horizon. The browser's key pitch is simple, but brilliant: ChatGPT goes wherever you go online. During the demo, Sam Altman, the CEO of OpenAI, summed it up, "It's smooth, it's quick and it's very nice to use." Social media, of course, had its say. Many users attribute these traits to Google's Chromium.
"Something's bugging me about Atlas—it's clearly Chromium-based (you can tell from the user agent and UI), but I can't find any credit to Chromium anywhere. No license info, no acknowledgements," a user said on Hacker News. "Sam realises that his team just made Chrome with ChatGPT as the home tab." Meanwhile, right around this launch, OpenAI wrote on X that Meta changed its policies so that 1-800-ChatGPT won't work on WhatsApp after January 15, 2026. "Luckily, we have an app, website and browser you can use instead to access ChatGPT," OpenAI added in a not-so-subtle flex.

Join Ankit Rana, chief innovation officer at Polestar Analytics, and Siddharth Poddar, chief product officer at Polestar Analytics, as they break down what it truly means to be "agent-ready". Click here to know more. The timing of ChatGPT's Atlas release couldn't have been more intriguing. Recently, Perplexity unveiled Comet, its AI-first browser designed to automate web workflows. Microsoft's Edge leans deeper into its Copilot Mode. Meanwhile, Google's Chrome has Gemini-powered conversational search, Brave has Leo, Opera has Neon and, now, OpenAI has Atlas. "Just woke up. Did I miss anything?" Aravind Srinivas, CEO of Perplexity, sarcastically said on X. In response, users dismissed any cause for concern, noting that it was just another browser in the market. But Atlas isn't just another search bar upgrade. For power users, an Agent Mode lets ChatGPT handle multi-step tasks like research, analysis or scheduling. It's an early glimpse at what OpenAI calls "autonomous agents". Yes, it's all built on top of Google's Chromium, which feels almost poetic. The company that kickstarted the AI boom with ChatGPT, itself built on Google's Transformer architecture, is now wrapping its biggest rival's codebase to take on its core product. This ironically pushed Google to play catch-up with Gemini. Three years later, OpenAI is doing it again. This time, however, not with a chatbot, but with the browser itself. AI NEWS >> |
