Let’s go!  Last Week In AI   ChatGPT is erasing your Memory   MIT researchers studied how ChatGPT affects our thinking by monitoring brain activity of 54 people split into three groups: ChatGPT users, Google Search users, and those using only their brains for writing essays.   Key Findings: Memory Loss: 83% of ChatGPT users couldn't remember a single sentence from essays they wrote just minutes before, and none realized their memory was getting worse. Cognitive Debt: People are trading future thinking skills for quick convenience today, like borrowing money they can't pay back. Less Brain Activity: Brain scans showed ChatGPT users had lower mental engagement compared to Google users who had to actively search and analyze information. Weaker Critical Thinking: ChatGPT gives instant answers, so users don't practice analyzing information like they do with Google searches. Why It Matters: The study shows we're shifting from active thinking to passive consumption when using AI. As ChatGPT does more mental work for us, we risk losing important thinking skills needed for good decision-making, creating long-term dependence on AI.   Source: arxiv   Midjourney enters the video generation race Midjourney launched its first video generation model, allowing users to animate still images into 5-second videos. Positioned as a stepping stone toward real-time AI simulations, the service launches web-only at 8x the cost of image generation - 25 times cheaper than existing alternatives. Why Should You Join Image-to-Video Pipeline: Users create images in Midjourney as usual, then press "Animate" with automatic motion generation or manual motion prompts to describe desired movement. Motion Control Options: "Low motion" for ambient scenes with slow, deliberate movement, and "high motion" for dynamic scenes with both subject and camera movement. Extension Capability: Videos can be extended roughly 4 seconds at a time, up to four extensions total, allowing for longer sequences. External Image Support: Users can upload images from outside Midjourney as "start frames" and apply motion prompts to animate them. Why It Matters: Midjourney is systematically building toward interactive AI-generated worlds by developing core components: visuals, video, 3D movement, and real-time processing.
