Amazon recently entered the competitive landscape of text-to-image AI models with its latest offering – Titan. This places the company alongside major players like Google with Imagen, OpenAI with DALL.E, StabilityAI with Stable Diffusion, and Meta with CM3leon, among others. But here’s a catch: it claims to be better than anything you’ve ever seen.

Titan Image Generator claims to enhance accuracy and inclusivity while preventing the generation of toxic or biased content. While it is a little too early to comment, the same is not the case with other text-to-image generators.

Google’s Imagen initially noted that its model ‘encodes several social biases and stereotypes’ and its output is often racist or toxic in some hypercritical situations. The same is the fate of DALL.E, and a slew of other image generators, including Stable Diffusion and Midjourney. Amazon’s claims, too, may be a tad superficial, given its history around biases.

This time around, Amazon's decision not to disclose specific data sources used for training, raises concerns about permissions and compensation for creators, sparking controversy around data ethics.

On the bright side, the introduction of invisible watermarks in images created by Titan looks like a promising start as it would help identify AI-generated content and combat disinformation. This positions Amazon, besides Adobe FireFly, as a significant player in addressing the intellectual property and ethical challenges posed by generative AI.

Plus, Amazon’s Titan also highlights the tool’s versatility, where it can be adapted by various industries, including e-commerce, advertising and entertainment.

Looks like there is no end to OpenAI drama. Earlier today, the company confirmed that Ilya Sutskever will no longer be part of the board. Now, Sam Altman, Greg Brockman, and Mira Murati are going to lead the company, with Bret Taylor, Larry Summers, and Adam D’Angelo on the initial board, and Microsoft as an observer part of the board.

Stability AI, Endless misery and despair (Emad)

Stability AI is gasping for money amid increasing pressure from investors and competitors. The company’s founder, Emad Mostaque, is desperately looking for alternate avenues. So much so that he and his team even approached Cohere and Jasper AI to sell their business. Sadly, both seemed to care less.

One of its key investors, Coatue, has claimed that Mostaque's poor leadership led to the departure of several top employees, placing the startup in a challenging financial position. Representatives from both Coatue and Lightspeed have already stepped down from Stability's board, expressing disagreements with Mostaque's management style.
