🎯 3 Prompt Mistakes & How To Fix Them |
Whenever I do my AI Prompt Mastery Workshops, people always tell me - ChatGPT is not creative at all, it gives out generic content & sounds TOOOOOOO robotic. 😣 And my usual sarcastic response to that is, "bro, it's not her, it's you..". 😉 From first-hand experience, I can tell you it's NOT ChatGPT's fault at all. The truth is - your prompts are too vague, you don't give it enough context and you haven't told it what YOU sound like! 😠 So this week, let's explore the three most common mistakes in AI prompting and how to avoid them. Let's turn you slowly into a prompt genius. 😎 |
Mistake 1. Writing 1-Liner Vague Prompts: This is the classic beginner mistake. We treat ChatGPT like Google. Bad idea. We treat ChatGPT like a god-like answering machine. Worse idea. You need to treat ChatGPT more "humanly" than you do today. ❌ Wrong Way: If you ask an AI, "Write an article about prompting mistakes to avoid" it's too broad and might lead to generic content. ✅ Right Way: A better approach is, “Please write an educational newsletter article on the topic - 3 mistakes to avoid while prompting. Add an example in each of the sections to demonstrate the wrong way vs the right way.” This precise prompt guides the AI to provide specific and relevant information. |
Mistake 2. Not Providing Enough Context: Imagine you're meeting complete stranger who knows nothing about you and your work. How well do you think that person can help you with anything at all? No wonder you'll get generic advice like you're watching another motivational YT video meant for a million people like you, but not EXACTLY you. ❌ Wrong Way: Asking, "Please write an educational newsletter article on the topic - 3 mistakes to avoid while prompting." ✅ Right Way: Instead, say "I'm the founder of Future & AI. I write a weekly AI newsletter to educate my audience of AI enthusiasts mostly of age 16 to 35 based in India. My goal is to improve their AI skills for career & personal growth. Keep a friendly tone. Keep the language crisp & simple enough for an 8th grader." This extra context guides the AI to understand specifics and respond accurately. |
Mistake 3. Not Doing Follow-Ups: Let's say you're discussing ideas with a friend. Do you each say 1 line each and then the session ends? Lame, right? So why do we expect the same from AI? You need to collaborate with AI. Challenge it, let it challenge you. Come up with something brilliant TOGETHER. Controversial but almost true - "AI bhi ek insaan hai". 🥲 ❌ Wrong Way: Not telling AI, how disappointed you are in it's first response. The worst thing you can do is to simply get grumpy and saying "heh, I can do far better". 😖 ✅ Right Way: If the initial answer isn't quite right, ask a follow-up question like, "Can you share more examples of each type of prompting error? Also, the language has become too friendly. Keep it professional but relaxed. Here's an example of my writing style - <insert your actual writing samples here>" This encourages the AI to learn from your feedback and offer a far richer response. |
Conclusion: | By avoiding vague requests, providing clear context, and effectively using follow-up questions, you can significantly enhance your interactions with AI. No more generic robotic useless stuff anymore! 💥 If there was one thing I could drill into your head, it would be - "Treat AI like a friend's friend who's an expert but knows very little about you yet." Thank me later. Too much? Want to see this in real action? Check out this simple but powerful example of how I wrote the first draft of this article, intentionally starting simple & vague, then giving more context & then iterating further. |
