The truth is that Apple seems to be making minimal efforts to save Siri. While it plans to release an upgraded version in iOS 18 sometime next year, OpenAI – touted as the new Apple – has already taken the lead with the release of ChatGPT Voice Assistant. This new AI assistant, capable of open-ended dialogues on any topic, quickly overshadows Siri.

So much so that many iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max users are now using the Action button as a ChatGPT shortcut. Meanwhile, other iPhone users attempting to integrate ChatGPT with Siri are finding themselves disappointed.


However, the upcoming iOS 18 is said to incorporate generative AI capabilities to help Siri answer questions. Apple is also reportedly considering generative AI for apps like Apple Music, Pages, Keynote, and Xcode. 


While Apple is making a push to emerge on the winning side of generative AI, it should accept the fact that in the past year, OpenAI has taken the lead. The capabilities Apple is aiming for with generative AI might appear insignificant compared to GPT-4 or GPT-4 Turbo. 


It’s high time that Apple started exploring opportunities to collaborate with OpenAI. If it happens, it would be unlike anything the world has ever seen. Unless, of course, Apple prefers to tread the Blackberry route.
