Sign up here _________________________________________________________________ Devin, the world’s first AI software engineer, built by Cognition Lab, is here, and the internet is shattered with mixed emotions. Many, especially the coders and doomers (aka fearmongers), are straight-out losing it.    “Devin feels UI/UX-first, not GenAI-first,” said Andrew Kean Gao, an avid developer, who got early access to play around with the AI software engineer. He said, though AI is a core component, it's the surrounding infra they built that is the star of the show.  Gao said that the product feels quite finished, and this is not a demo. “They have things built out such as auto deploy to netlify, api key protection, intelligent way to interrupt without interrupting, a good UI that is *tailored to humans* and bridges LLM and human dev, the slider to move backwards in time (sic),” he added, saying that it was fun to watch things unfold.  “Biggest negative is the slowness,” said Gao, cautiously adding that it could be because of the 1 Mbps Starlink connection. “So that part is probably me.”  He also said that you can not edit the code. “Not collaborative yet.”  Enjoy the full story here. AGI Coming Soon Looks like AGI’s arrival is advanced by a year, and with Devin also in the picture, AGI is more likely to happen sooner than expected. “We’re not quite there [yet], but we will be there, and by 2029 it [AI] will [be able to] match any person,” said Ray Kurzweil, the famous computer scientist, in a recent podcast with Joe Rogan, when asked about his views on AI and its capabilities.  Even Tesla chief Elon Musk, acknowledged the timeline, saying that “AI will probably be smarter than any single human next year. By 2029, AI is probably [gonna be] smarter than all humans combined.”  Read the full story here. India ♥️ Open-Source AI  The level of contribution from the open-source AI community is accelerating in India. From Infosys and Sarvam AI, to BharatGPT and fine-tuned Llama models such as Tamil, Kannada, Odia, and Marathi, everyone is looking to build interesting use cases, business applications and more.  With this in the backdrop, the country is surely going to lead the open-source AI revolution in the coming months, alongside US and China. Painting Pixels with GenAI    In October last year, Canva introduced Magic Studio, a suite of generative AI-powered design tools that makes content creation accessible to users and automates labour-intensive features, regardless of their design experience. The company is now looking at India for its growth.
