| | | | | | Hey there! In today’s edition of Sector 6, your AI Memelord, Mohit Pandey, is writing a petition to rename HSR Layout in Bengaluru to HSR.AI since everyone is busy building an AI startup here – that too on top of each other! | | | | | | | | Recently, Srikrishna Swaminathan, the CEO of Factors.AI, shared a photo on LinkedIn from his office in Urban Vault. The caption read: “One building, and all AI companies. Factors.ai can claim to attract all AI here, as we were the first occupants”, tagging Amal Mishra and Urban Vault. These startups include Loop.AI, Raga.AI, Frinks.AI, Actyv.AI. | | | | | | | When it comes to AI startups, apart from the five in the Urban Vault company, there are several other AI startups in HSR Layout. Some of the notable startups are MachineHack GenAI, Zolnoi Innovations, HyperVerge, SigTuple, Invento Robotics, and TalView, to name a few. | | | | | It is time to rename HSR to HSR.AI | | | | | In an earlier casual conversation with AIM, Ganesh Gopalan, the CEO and co-founder of GNANI.AI, highlighted that they wished to establish the startup in HSR, citing it as a hub for tech talent. A lot of this is also because of the support of the Karnataka government for building startups. Bengaluru is home to over 7,000 startups, solidifying its status as India's leading startup hub and accounting for 20% of the country's overall startup activity. | | | | | | | But it's not just HSR Layout | | Sanjeev Kumar Gupta, the CEO of Karnataka Digital Economy Mission, told AIM that there are over 1,000 AI startups in Bengaluru. “With initiatives like Beyond Bengaluru, we are also promoting AI startups, Mysuru, Hubli, and Mangaluru,” he added. Some of the most prominent ones from the city include Sarvam AI, Krutrim AI, Kogo AI, Karya AI, and CoRover.ai. | | | | | | | Every company is becoming an AI company | | The fun fact is that the companies which were not into AI are also becoming AI companies. Take for example Myntra, Flipkart, and even Paytm. “We believe that Paytm will have to become a completely AI company,” said Paytm chief Vijay Shekhar Sharma. The same is the case with Zoho, which started out as a SaaS company, is also slowly turning into an AI company as it is developing its own LLMs. Even Zomato and Swiggy are following suit by adopting AI heads in their teams and experimenting with generative AI wherever possible. But what use are these AI experiments if the core models are not good enough? We recently took Krutrim out for a walk in the land of UPSC to test how efficient and culturally aware it was. | | | | | | | Speaking of Krutrim, CEO Bhavish Aggarwal made an interesting comparison between training AI models and running an Ola S1 scooter. “One H100 NVIDIA GPU consumes 30x electricity in a year as an Ola S1 scooter.” He said that an H100 GPU requires around 8.7 MWh of energy per year, whereas an S1 requires 0.25 MWh/year. He made a claim that we “Need a lot of electricity in the future!” Is that really true? | | | | | | | | | No, 1-bit LLMs are the answer for India’s AI questions | | Pranav Mistry, disagreed with Aggarwal completely. “No, you need optimised AI models like SUTRA Light and innovations like 1-bit LLM.” And this does make sense. These 1-bit LLMs introduce a new way of scaling and training language models, offering a balance between high performance and cost-effectiveness. Most importantly, it is more cost-effective in terms of factors like latency, memory usage, throughput, and energy consumption. This is why it is necessary for Indian AI research in the future. Though the performance of these 1-bit LLMs in Indic language is yet to be measured and evaluated, discussions among researchers point to the fact that the existing models can also be converted into 1-bit LLMs in the future using the changed hardware. Since India is mostly experimenting with AI’s inference part, 1-bit LLMs are the way forward for India’s AI models. | | | | | | | Popular pop culture-based Indian clothing brand Bewakoof has announced a collaboration with Google Cloud to design a collection of AI-generated t-shirts. Bengaluru-based startup rampp.ai has successfully bagged angel funding of $500,000. The Indian government is set to partner with TCS, HCLTech and Tech Mahindra in a INR 6,000 crore initiative aimed at developing software for quantum technologies. | | | | | | | Intuit's WiDS 2024: Celebrating Women's Achievements in Data Science | | | | | | | WiDS 2024 by Intuit is all set to empower and elevate women working in data science.
